The new skills I learned from using Diigo are bookmarking, creating sticky notes, and interacting with others posts.. You can bookmark websites or articles you find useful and even create sticky notes to jot down thoughts you had about a specific sentence or column. You can also look at what others have bookmarked and their comments on the same thing as you. This gives you different perspectives on the same topic. Diigo can be useful in classrooms because you could give a website and have the students create sticky notes on things they thought were important or useful to the topic you’re discussing in class. It can be useful with team members if you are not able to meet up together but can still give your thoughts and see others at the same time. In your individual efforts it’s useful if you find an article you love and want to remember you can just quickly use Diigo to save it.

I could use powerpoint as a supportive technology for student learning in for example, math. When you make a powerpoint you are creating something, you’re planning the lesson out and then constructing it into a design. I could even voice record myself explaining the lesson more thoroughly which is also “creating”. When “evaluating”, I could allow the students to comment their thoughts onto the slides and have them review how to do certain steps that I included in the slide. When “analyzing”, I could have them deconstruct one of the math problems from the slides and tell me why this it’s supposed to be that way. When “applying”, I could make them carry out the steps of the problems in the slides and do it themselves. For “understanding” I would make a slide on basic step-by-step solutions to solve the problem and have them do it until they understand it themselves. For remembering, I would create another problem on the last slide and have them execute it without any help.

Technology in education is constantly evolving, which means teachers are required to do the same. In order to have a well managed lesson using new technology, the teacher has to know everything about it and how to use it in the classroom. This requires them to train on new technologies which can be stressful when they finally got used to the previous technology they had to train for. I found a website that can help teachers or anyone keep up with technology trends that are necessary for them to keep up with technology innovation in education. Tech.Co is a website that is all about technology. They actually have a section that is directed only for new technology so you can stay updated. They also give reviews on them and whether or not they are really worth your time. Which is key for teachers so they don’t get something that may not help them be more effective, especially when using technology to teach.
