Blog Journal #10

As a teacher I believe I will use surveys and excel a lot to get back important information/storing that important information. Surveys are an awesome way to get quick feedback from your students. Since I want to teach second grade, I might use surveys by asking them about their knowledge on a topic before we start on it, that way I will know where everyone is at in the classroom. I would love to keep track of my students test grades using excel, so that I can see if they have excelled on a certain subject or have fallen behind. This will give me insight on what I should focus more on topic/subject wise. Over the blog posts that I have read from my classmates, I found everyone’s LIPs to be the most interesting. A lot of people did other things than me and it was cool to see how their experiences were different than mine. Another topic I found interesting was everyone’s thoughts on our PLN projects we did during this class. Such as, some thought Diigo was really helpful and great, w...

ILP #2 "Design" WebQuest

For my second Independent Learning Project, I wanted to create something that I am familiar with from learning in this class. I decided that making a WebQuest was the best thing for me to do. Out of all the assignments, I found creating a website the most valuable and fun way to make educational content. Since I am going into the field of teaching elementary school children, I wanted to create website that correlated with it. For my WebQuest, the information is on second grade word math problems. In another class we were asked to create a video of us teaching a group of people any lesson we wanted and this is what I did it on. I was accustomed to this lesson plan so I figured making a website on it would be the easiest for me. I go over the steps it takes for you to solve a word problem and the operations and key words you are required to know. I also leave sources that will help you solve the problem easily with strategies for it, as well as sources that I used to create this WebQuest...

A flipped classroom is a way of teaching. The pedagogy of a flipped classroom is where students basically learn the material on their own and in the classroom, discuss what they learned. This can be beneficial on a certain degree, but not all classes thrive off of this method. For instance, I once had a calculus class in high school where the teacher uploaded videos online for us to watch and learn, and then in class, we did the homework, he didn't want to help us either. Math is just not a subject that you can do this method with, you have to teach them step by step and be there to help them. But, in classes where it’s just mainly reading things at home and then coming in to discuss them, this method might flourish. It honestly depends on the students preference of learning. Open educational resources are resources that are available to everyone and anyone. They are usually based online. Having open educational resources is very beneficial for students who are already spending...
