What influences teachers and students to use technology is the actual engagement received unlike in a lecture. During lectures, the teachers have a hard time keeping their students full attention, so, using technology will really bring them in and have them interested.
One standard I find meaningful in the ISTE standards is "learner". I'm like a sponge and constantly learning from others to better improve myself. I love working with others in a way so that we both can bounce things off each other that we couldn't have done alone, allowing us to grow. One standard that is a little outside my current skill set would have to be "leader", which is weird since I am wanting to become an educator. I find it hard to take charge because I love being on the other side and learning from those around me.
I 100% believe in the term "digital native" for today's youth. It seem like once they are able to start talking they are given some sort of smart device. Today's youth all have either tablets or smart phones they have become accustomed to. To be a digital native, means to have grown up during the age of technology, therefore making them extremely familiar with it. I grew up when technology was growing rapidly in schools, so I know how to use smart devices. You normally don't see our age asking the older ones for help on using technology, you see them asking us, which is one difference. Most of them have been learning with us so they try to make it a priority in our learning due to all the benefits form it. Since I am a "digital native", I feel there won't be many differences between me and my future students. We will both be more accustomed to it than the teachers were back when I was younger.

Yes, I agree...Technologies can be effectively used for increasing students' engagement. Not just at the beginning but throughout the course. :-)
